An education in art goes beyond building knowledge and technical skills, it’s about finding one’s voice, igniting curiosity, connecting with others, making meaning of the present and discovering a place in the world. It is important to celebrate successes together because the experiences and relationships one creates here will inform the rest of their life.
Exhibitions
Residual | Senior BFA Exhibition
April 6 – 9 | Gallery 100
Opening reception | April 7 | 5 – 7 p.m.
Gallery 100 is pleased to present “Residual”, a BFA exhibition of painting, drawing, photography, textiles and video performance works. “Residual,” a word for something left behind, connects these different mediums by exploring the stickiness of human connection and memory, alongside the innate connection we have to the earth. These artists examine grief, nostalgia, beauty and healing in a way that is quietly confrontational by addressing the viewer through personal experiences. Drawing inspiration from the nearby landscapes of the Southwest, observations of the natural world and interpersonal relationships, these artists explore what it means to be human and the residue they leave behind. Through this multimedia work, “Residual” expands on an in-depth view of humanity, nature and the intertwining of a world that connects us all, reminding us to take notice of the things we leave behind. Exhibiting artists include Camryn Campbell, Claire Gramling, Rori Hodge, Kayde Johnson, Megan Keen, Sarah Medina, Shianne Michels, Alexis Pearson, Nguyen Truong and Luna Wilkes.

En Masse | MFA Thesis Exhibition
April 3 – 11 | Step Gallery
Opening reception | April 3 | 6 – 8 p.m.
“En Masse” is an interactive ceramic garden consisting of several hundred hand-thrown vessels. Visitors are encouraged to harvest wares by lifting a lid, unstacking a bowl and twisting a cup out of its holding place. Pottery has a unique relationship to food in how the clay soil provides nutrients to grow the plants which, in turn, feed us. This cycle represents the deep relationship humans have to the objects we use and where they come from. Throughout the space, repeating forms are clustered to create an environment inspired by the history of gardens. This experience urges one to consider the possibility of designing residential landscapes which are both formal and edible.

EBB & Flow | Senior BFA Exhibition
April 13 – 16 | Gallery 100
Opening reception | April 14 | 5 – 7 p.m.
Gallery 100 is pleased to present “EBB & Flow,” a BFA group exhibition featuring Ashley Saenz Gomez, Parker Hatic, Jennifer Reyes-Aranda, Samantha Velazquez, Emily Houlihan, Johanna Scarlata, Sedona Sturgeon, Echo Brown, Williams Nordrum and Allen Nguyen. The ten interdisciplinary artists in “EBB & Flow” explore how ideas move between inner life and shared space. Through painting, sculpture, textiles, printmaking and mixed media, the artists present works that range from reflections on memory and perception to imaginative narratives rooted in fantasy and creative discovery.
While each artist follows a distinct direction, engaging subjects such as storytelling, mental health, political defiance and childhood inspiration, their works share a common interest in translating lived experience into visual narratives that invite viewers to feel, question and remember. The exhibition highlights the movement of ideas through image, material and form, and reflects how art evolves through personal narratives, collective momentum and the continuous exchange of perspectives. “EBB & Flow” invites viewers to move through shifting visual rhythms, noticing how different practices and perspectives can coexist, overlap and connect within a single exhibition.

In the Making: Craft, Community & Art Education in the Valley of the Sun
April 6 to 23 | Harry Wood Gallery
Opening reception | April 7 | 5 to 7 p.m.
Community sewing circle | April 11 | 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"In the Making: Craft, Community & Art Education in the Valley of the Sun" presents individual and collaborative textile works by artists and educators directly connected to the ASU Art Education program. The exhibition asks how teaching and artmaking inform one another, and how shared craft practices and values can deepen both.
Developed over the course of a year through sewing circles and writing workshops, the project frames craft as a mode of research, pedagogy and knowledge-making. It aims to recognize, amplify and strengthen intergenerational exchange among ASU art education students, faculty, new teachers and mentor teachers, creating a place and platform to acknowledge the depth and value of the creative work taking place in K-12 art classrooms across the greater Valley.

X | Senior BFa Exhibition
April 20 – 23 | Gallery 100
Opening reception | April 21 | 5 – 7 p.m.
“X” is a multidisciplinary BFA exhibition at Gallery 100 that features the work of 10 emerging artists: Shalini Batra, Molly Devine, Braedon Foundos, Nathan Garcia, Julia Gavaletz, Kelly Graber, Evelyn Guerra, Louis Kline, Josh Laggis and Erik Velasquez. Through photography, painting and sculptural work, “X” reflects the collective energy and distinct creative voices of these artists coming together to shape a shared experience. “X,” whether read as roman numeral 10 or an unknown variable, does not attempt to unify, but rather to signal a multitude of voices. Through a wide range of explorations of culture, identity, landscapes, human connection and the animal world, the exhibition highlights both personal inquiry and technical growth. As a culminating senior exhibition, “X” demonstrates not only the development of each artist’s craft but also traces the evolutions of their conceptual thinking. The exhibition serves as a powerful showcase of the skills, experimentation and critical engagement cultivated throughout their academic journey.

Liliana Flores is an artist with cerebral palsy. She believes that art can be a powerful tool for expression, healing and learning, especially for students with disabilities.
Her work has given her an outlet to express herself in a world that often disregards people with disabilities. Art has given Flores the opportunity to share her experiences and explore how differing abilities shape perceptions. Through her art, Flores shares her journey and hopes to inspire others to achieve their dreams despite what the rest of the world may say. Art is a tool to help individuals with differing abilities learn, create and express themselves. It gives a way to reflect and understand themselves in a world that doesn’t always accept them.
Flores’ faith and culture, along with her physical abilities, anchor her work. They remind us that creation is not just an act of making, but a practice of listening, learning and reflecting. Each piece becomes a way to understand where she comes from and how she navigates the world moving forward. With her Master of Arts and Master of Education, Flores is committed to becoming an educator who uses art as a meaningful and inclusive practice. She aims to create supportive learning environments where students of all abilities feel seen, valued and empowered to express their own stories.
