A degree in Museum and Curatorial Practices

How to engage with museums and cultural institutions

The School of Art at ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts offers options for students interested in art museums, exploring the importance of museums and cultural organizations, working in museum fields and arts scholarship. We offer an undergraduate degree and an online graduate degree in museum and curatorial practices. We invite you to explore each degree to find the program for you.

Why get a degree in museum and curatorial practices at ASU?

Students in both our BA and our online MA programs explore the role of museums and cultural organizations in communities and how to engage with these institutions.

Distinguished faculty with experience working and curating nationally and internationally provide expertise across an array of courses within the field of museum and curatorial practices, including art history, visual culture, liberal studies, education, global studies, justice and critical studies. In the School of Art, students also have access to the school's four galleries, the ASU Art Museum and its Ceramics Research Center and Archive, the Pyracantha Press, visiting artists and scholars, a thriving local arts scene, and more.

Graduates are prepared for jobs with art museums, university and commercial art galleries, historical societies and archives, libraries and other nonprofit organizations, curating, and research and scholarship.
