Children's Art Workshop
Our mission is to connect children, creativity and community through artmaking. We aim to be a bridge between the university and the community, reflecting the critical work and possibilities of art education.
Welcome to the Eleanor A. Robb Children’s Art Workshop, a unique community program that has served generations of children throughout the Phoenix area interested in learning about and making art for almost 40 years!
Open to all children in grades K-8, classes provide instruction in 2-D and 3-D techniques with a variety of media that may include: drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry making, printmaking, photography and mixed-media approaches. While engaging in creative processes, young artists are also introduced to artists, art history and studio habits of mind. Classes invite attendees to use their skill and imagination, engage in creative risk-taking and express ideas using traditional and more experimental artmaking approaches.

What makes this program unique?
The workshop is taught every fall semester by passionate ASU Art Education majors, who design and teach the curriculum as part of their preparation to become art teachers. They bring their varied backgrounds, knowledge, training and skills to create dynamic experiences for young artists enrolled in the workshops. Classes are held in the School of Art at ASU’s Tempe campus, so attendees learn new techniques and processes in the classrooms and facilities that support students at the college level. Our small class sizes allow teachers to provide individualized attention and mentorship for each young artist throughout the program. We aim to be a bridge between the university and the community, reflecting the critical work and possibilities of art education.

History of Children’s Art Workshop
Since the 1980s, the Eleanor A. Robb Children’s Art Workshop has been a community program hosted by the Art Education program within the School of Art at Arizona State University. The program’s mission is two-fold: 1) to serve all children interested in learning about and making art, and 2) to prepare Art Education students to design curriculum and teach art with K-8 students. The Workshop is supported by and named after Eleanor A. Robb, a longtime arts advocate. In the spirit of her steadfast championing of the arts and youth engagement, the program has been a pillar in the community, continuously creating space for artistic engagement for youth and preparing the next generation of art educators. The Children’s Art Workshop was led by Dr. Bernard Young for almost 40 years, and continues with his energy and dedication by faculty in the Art Education program.
