A degree in Animation
The animation program at the School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is designed around a fine arts foundation with core animation classes in 2D and 3D techniques and principles. The flexible program draws on the other area strengths within the School of Art, allowing exploration in stop motion, animation and video, and special effects. Students will also find many courses in the Herberger Institute’s Sidney Poitier New American Film School dovetail with our curriculum. Faculty support a wide range of career goals from commercial aspirations to conceptual independent artist animation films.
Animation facilities in ASU’s Herberger Institute School of Art include a high-end computer Windows computer lab with Adobe, Autodesk, Substance, and Houdini suites. Additionally available: zBrush, Reaper, ToonBoom Harmony, Soundly, Unity3D, Blender, Adv Skeleton, and a render farm via Deadline queue manager. Wacom tablets available for checkout. Separate motion capture room with MacMinis, DSLR cameras, and Dragonframe. Stop Motion equipment available: camera stands, lights, and webcameras. Various 2D and 3D printing capabilities. Green-screen facilities offsite. Sound recording access at the Media Immersive eXperience Center (MIX).
