The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks multiple full-time 9-month (academic year) Assistant Teaching Professors in Animation with an emphasis on storyboarding, 2D animation, and/or 3D animation, beginning August, 2024. These positions include undergraduate teaching and service responsibilities on the Tempe, Arizona campus.
The School of Art seeks candidates with a rich and varied skill set in the field of Animation. The successful candidates are expected to pursue an active teaching agenda in Animation in one or more of the following areas: storyboarding, 2D animation, and/or 3D animation. The successful candidates will teach lower and upper division undergraduate courses and instruct a variety of in-person, hybrid, and online course offerings, and will mentor undergraduate students based on department needs. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to a dynamic and growing Animation program, including developing new courses related to their areas of expertise. The successful candidates will also contribute impactful service to the program, the School of Art, the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, and ASU as well as the profession and/or the community. Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in animation, digital media, or a related field; OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of professional experience in an animation relevant industry
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching with experience in higher education.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach in-person and online upper and lower division undergraduate courses in storyboarding and/or animation
- Demonstrated ability to teach and develop online and hybrid courses
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and professionals in academic settings, the industry and/or the surrounding community
- Knowledge of the innovations and new directions in the animation industry including trends and current issues
- Evidence of sustained student mentorship activity
