The School of Art and ASU FIDM in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks to hire a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month (academic year) Assistant Teaching Professor in the Fashion program with an emphasis on Fashion Design and Construction, beginning Spring, 2024. Position responsibilities include teaching/mentoring students and performing service activities. This position will be located on the ASU Phoenix campus.

ASU FIDM seeks candidates for our Downtown Phoenix program with a rich and varied skill set in the field of fashion with a focus on design. Successful candidates will demonstrate skills in fashion design and collection development. Skills should include flat pattern making, draping and apparel construction, technical product development, sketching, sewing and tailoring. This position will have service responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to supervising, coordinating, mentoring, and assessing the instruction of teaching assistants and faculty associates within their assigned area.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in fashion design, or the combination of a BFA in Fashion Design and professional experience in the fashion industry
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with at least three years of experience teaching in higher education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach all levels (upper-division and lower-division) of undergraduate courses
  • Ability to teach and develop online and hybrid courses
  • Proficiency in flat pattern making, draping, and apparel construction, technical product development, sketching, sewing and tailoring

ASU FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising), is the fashion program within the School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University.
