Job description:

The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks to hire multiple full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month (academic year) Assistant Teaching Professors in the ArtCORE foundation program with an emphasis on Pictorial Investigations and Color Theory, 3-D Design, and/or Digital Media. These positions will be based in Tempe/Phoenix, Arizona, beginning August 2023. These positions will include serving online and/or in-person undergraduate students. We seek candidates whose experience and teaching will contribute to an equitable and inclusive learning and work environment.

The School of Art seeks candidates with rich and varied skill sets in the art foundation areas of: Pictorial Investigations and Color Theory; 3-D Design; and/or Digital Media. The successful candidates will have knowledge of fundamental technical skills and use of media and applications specific to the core area of study. The successful candidates will have experience teaching undergraduate courses in online, hybrid, and/or in-person formats. The successful candidates will have experience working with a diverse student population and will be able to communicate to students their progress, while recognizing their diversified backgrounds. The successful candidates will have experience mentoring and advising students. The successful candidates will be able to utilize an online platform to organize their course work and facilitate grading. These positions have service responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to supervising, coordinating, mentoring, and assessing the teaching assistants and faculty associates teaching within their assigned ArtCORE area , as well as managing the ArtCORE budget, supply inventory, and facilities. The successful candidates will have strong organizational skills and be able to effectively communicate and prioritize deadlines. 

Required qualifications:

  • Master of Fine Arts degree
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with at least three years’ experience teaching in higher education
  • Demonstrated evidence of expertise within the field of emphasis

Desired qualifications:

  • Ability to teach undergraduate foundation courses 
  • Ability to teach and develop online and hybrid courses
  • Proficiency in art foundation techniques and/or technologies
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Ability to supervise graduate Teaching Assistants and Faculty Associates
