Phoenix/Valencia: Breaking the Wall

Opening reception on Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. Exhibition runs Oct. 15–26.

"Phoenix/Valencia: Breaking the Wall," is a cultural exchange project between ASU’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts' School of Art and Facultat de Belles Arts de Sant Carles Universidad Politecnica de Valencia Departamento de Dibujo in Spain that is founded on the idea that the graphic arts and the multiple have the capacity to connect distinct parts of the world regardless of their cultural differences. The printmaking portfolio exchange created by the invited artists, although traditional in nature, addresses contemporary issues that affect us all. From that point, mixed media works help to expand ideas addressed in the prints by making them more tangible, confrontational and provocative. These two cities are extremes of one another, old world versus new world, desert versus ocean, but despite these differences the artists in this exhibition find a way to bridge the gap and connect via self-expression.

Featured artists include Andrew Caruso, Liz Cohen, Binh Danh, Janet Diaz, Heather Green, Rogelio Gutierrez, Adriene Jenik, Mark Klett, Kathryn Maxwell, Jacob Meders, Anthony Mead, Stephen Marc, Antonio Alcaraz, Amparo Berenguer, Victoria Cano, Jonay Cogollos, Fernando Evangelio, Jose Manuel Guillen, Alberto March, Dolores Pascual, Alejandro Rodriguez, Ana Tomas, Miriam del Saz and Toni Simarro.
