"Works Designed for Your Living Room," a MFA thesis exhibition by Thomas Knight, consists of large-scale oil paintings conceptually focused around idiomatic symbolism and its primeval noetic and visceral effects. Within each work, a multiplicity of meanings is manifest in subtle ways as communicated by the diaristic recording of hourly psychic states directly into paint. Abstraction at the micro level, through the use of thickly rendered oil paint and expressionist color interplay, combined with non-literal, although recognizable, symbolic Animalia imagery at the anthropomorphic viewpoint, enables an inimitable expression that reaches beyond singular imagery and advances a unique realization upon the audience. As a summative process, the endgame is to arrive at a profounder comprehension of the spiritual and emotional nature of mortal ontology.
