Applying
Prospective non-transfer students applying to the Herberger Institute School of Art apply for admission to Arizona State University as art exploratory majors in the School of Art. There is no portfolio review process required at the time of admission to ASU as a freshman.
In your second year at ASU and if you plan to study studio art, you submit a portfolio for review. If you plan to enter art education, you submit a professional program application once you have finished your core requirements and are completing the last of the 12 hours of 200-level art requirements. If you are interested in art history or museum studies, you submit a professional program application in the semester you are completing 30 hours.
Transfer students who have completed the foundational core and pre-professional requirements may apply to the School of Art before you have been admitted to ASU. It is recommended that community college transfer students, who are completing a two-year degree and have completed the foundational core and pre-professional requirements, apply and submit a portfolio in the semester you are completing your community college degree.
