Metals

The ASU Herberger College School of Art metals program is a comprehensive program that combines art production, criticism, aesthetics, historic references and personal experiences, which promote the artist as an active participant in society. ASU is one of only a handful of university programs in the nation offering blacksmithing courses.  Students are urged to experiment with new technologies, materials and ideas.

ASU is surrounded by numerous galleries and museums as well as local organizations such as the Arizona Designer Craftsmen, Metalink and the Arizona Artist-Blacksmith Association. Many students take advantage of the close relationship with the school's sculpture and foundry programs. Graduates find jobs with jewelers, become teachers and open their own businesses.

The metals program curates an annual Intercollegiate Metals Exhibition, incorporating work from university metals and jewelry departments from across the nation. The exhibition includes student and faculty work and is juried by participating colleges and universities.
