Metals

Community

Metals faculty from the ASU Herberger Institute School of Art are actively involved in the community. They serve on panels for the Public Art Program in Phoenix, jury exhibitions and serve as board members in state organizations. Becky McDonah currently serves as central chapter president of Arizona Designer Craftsmen and Faculty Associate Tedd McDonah has assumed the role of Metalink central coordinator.

In other areas of involvement, the metals area and its graduate students are working with the local Boy Scouts of America to help facilitate metal arts merit badges. The undergraduates work on group projects to donate to the Friends of Yuma for their fundraising silent auction that is held at the Yuma Craft Symposium. This money goes towards conference student scholarships.

The metals area also takes an active role presenting exhibitions, such as the Intercollegiate Metals Exhibition and Craftsmanship: An Arizona Designer Craftsmen Juried Exhibition, which help to educate and expose students, faculty and the general public about the metals field today and other areas of contemporary craft.
