PURL and SkySong
The Intermedia program in the ASU Herberger Institute School of Art is playing a key role in collaborative research in a number of off-campus initiatives. In downtown Phoenix, the Phoenix Urban Research Lab (PURL) is a think tank and design center for collecting hard data and envisioning the future of the downtown metro region. Collins, in collaboration with PRISM and the College of Design, is involved in creating an enhanced interface and media overlay for the existing large-scale physical model of the urban core.
SkySong, an innovation center at the border of Scottsdale and Tempe, is the new hub for innovation developed by ASU. Collins, PRISM and InnovationSpace are collaborating on the development of a design pipeline for SkySong that will feature cutting edge technology for 3D photography, laser scanning, animation and prototyping. The new 2000-square-foot facility is staffed by graduate students working in connection with partners from industry and the community.
