Community

In an effort to engage the community about the technical, material and conceptual issues related to contemporary fiber, faculty and graduate students provide lectures about their studio work to the Telarana Weavers Guild and Sun City West Weavers Guild on an annual basis.

Coordination with the state chapter of the Surface Design Association and the Mavericks, a local quilt group, provide support to secure visiting artist lectures on campus. Faculty and students are actively involved in exhibiting work in local galleries and alternative spaces.

There is a mutually beneficial link between the fiber department in the ASU Herberger Institute School of Art and the numerous fiber groups in the Phoenix metropolitan area that we hope to maintain and nurture in the future.
