Bio: B.A. University of Pennsylvania; M.A. University of Texas, Austin; Ph.D. Columbia University. Courses taught: Africa, Oceania, and Americas; Precolumbian Mesoamerica and South America; Spain and its New World colonies during the Renaissance and Baroque; seminars on Spanish and Mexican art before 1800. Scholarly interests: Aztec sculptures, hieroglyphic writing, metaphors, politics, and history; colonial Mexico; Spanish painting (17th century).
